How do you spell fear?
F.E.A.R?
What does F.E.A.R. stand for?
There’s a popular expression that says that F.E.A.R. stands for “False Expectations Appearing As Real.”
How is F.E.A.R. holding you back?
Let’s look at four other expressions (which I created) regarding what F.E.A.R. stands for:
#1: First Experiences Accepted as Reality
#2: Feelings and Emotions Allowed to Run Rampant and Ruin Our Lives
#3: Failed Experiments Affecting Our Reasoning
#4: Feelings of Embarrassment Allowed to Rule
#1: First Experiences Accepted as Reality:
Have you ever had a time when you had the first few experiences of doing something that you wanted to do but the outcome was so horrific you decided “I’m never going to do that again.”
This happens with public speaking a lot.
People try to speak in public and it was such a horrible experience that they decide that they’re never going to do it again.
And they accept that as reality for the rest of their lives.
#2: Feelings and Emotions Allowed to Run Rampant and Ruin Our Lives:
What happens when you run into a situation where public speaking is very important -- maybe it’s on a job, maybe it’s something simple but really valuable and meaningful such as making a toast at a wedding or being called upon to speak in front of a group of people on a critical subject and suddenly you remember the vow that you made, “I’m never going to speak in public again…”
So that first experience is accepted as reality for the rest of your life?
These feelings and emotions are being allowed to run rampant and ruin your current reality.
Are we going to stop here and allow these fears to block us?
#3: Failed Experiments Affecting Our Reasoning:
What about trying something that once failed?
We were so devastated. A failed experiment -- it affects our current reasoning.
We reason right now that that failure means that we will always be a failure.
#4: Feelings of Embarrassment Allowed to Rule:
What about feelings of embarrassment?
Feelings of Embarrassment Allowed to Rule our current actions right now.
Is the fear of embarrassment keeping you from launching yourself into the limelight?
What are we going to do about all of this?
Are we going to say that our dreams are forever going to be blocked by our fears?
How to step out of this?
What to do next?
